Supply and demand

The kids both had a field trip to a farm for school today. Tracy went
along as a chaperone.

One of the activities was a hay ride around the property and the
driver would stop to point out several things during the ride. He
showed trees they tap for syrup and talked about how the early and hot
spring resulted in not as much syrup this year.

At the end of the ride he asked if the kids had any questions, and the
syrup thing must have stuck with Aden. He asked if the price of syrup
was going to go up because of the lower production this year. The
teachers and parents were impressed by his question.

History

Aden has been reading a lot about Presidents lately. Somehow
conversation at dinner last night turned into a history lesson
starting with George Washington and the Revolutionary War, on to the
Civil War, statehood and presidential elections. The Gulf War came up
somewhere along the line and I used Saddam Hussein as an example of a
dictator that opposed democracy. Aden was interested in all if this
and kept asking questions, and Adalin definitely thinks naughty
dictators should go to jail.

So tonight Aden is getting ready for bed and asks me, "Dad, what was
that guys name from Iraq? Was it Saddam Ha-sein or Saddam Hu-sein?"

I replied, "Hu."

Aden shot back, "That guy from Iraq that we talked about last night."
